"boing" is a sound effect of Mario from Super Mario 64. It also is a major meme on the VvvvvaVvvvvvr channel.

The "boing" and "yahoo" sound clips used in boing rips come from the 1996 game Super Mario 64 for the Nintendo 64; If Mario manages to jump and land on a Spindrift Mario will utter the "boing" sound clip we all know and love, and if Mario performs a long jump Mario will utter the "yahoo" sound clip.
There's no definitive answer as to where the hell Atominizer got the idea for this meme or why he made it. It exists now, and he made it exist.

The use of boing started during the VvvvvaVvvvvvr's Totally Original Throwback Event from 2018, with its first rip being "main boing". The rips consist of a thumbnail featuring the word boing with artwork of Super Mario 64 along with the sound effect being pitch-shifted to various melodies. Boing became a frequently used joke on the channel and on February 2019 it would get its own playlist.
Other variants of boing have been created as a one-time joke on the channel, those being "bing" (Luigi as featured on Mario Kart 64), "drip" (Sonic as featured on Sonic Adventure), "bonk" (Scout from Team Fortress 2), "plane" (Tails as featured on Sonic Adventure) and "go" (Wario as featured on Mario Kart 64)
