”"The Marvelous Toy" is a folkloric nursery rhyme song originally written by Tom Paxton. The cover of the song by the Chad Mitchell Trio has become a major meme on the VvvvvaVvvvvvr channel.
Overview[]
"The Marvelous Toy" is a song written and composed by American folk singer and songwriter Tom Paxton released on 1962 for his album I'm The Man That Built The Bridges. The song itself consists of the enjoyment that a child has after his father gives him an unknown toy; the type of toy is not mentioned and it's only described. However, the only thing that matters to the child is having fun with it.
Like with other songs made by Tom Paxton, "The Marvelous Toy" would have covers made by various others artists such as Peter, Paul and Mary, John Denver and, most notably to the channel, the cover by The Chad Mitchell Trio.

During 2023, "The Marvelous Toy" was mainly used as a meme on the VvvvvaVvvvvvr channel through Whirrrrrr, which is based on the cover of Chad Mitchell Trio. The first use of "The Marvelous Toy" was the vip "Zip - Whirrrrrrr" which featured a YTPMV of "Piano Practice" from The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask with "The Marvelous Toy" as a source.
As the year progressed, many other vips using "The Marvelous Toy" as a source would be occasionally released. This would eventually culminate with the creation of the Whirrrrr playlist in late 2023. Despite all of this, the joke itself wouldn't become very frequent until 2024.
On March 13, 2024, an event known as The Whirrrrr-over would occur. In this event, a full OST completion of Undertale would occur, with all of these vips containing "The Marvelous Toy". This event had occurred to do various commenters counting down to when the first vip with Orbsman would be uploaded, which was when the event had occurred. Due to this, a handful of vips using "The Marvelous Toy" also reference Orbsman.
After this event, the source would get used much more than it did in 2023, with a huge rise in vips during mid-2024. On September 7, 2024, starting with the vip "Whitle - OMWHIRRRRI", another OST completion featuring the song would occur. This OST would be slowly completed over the coming months. This soundtrack completion was of the game OMORI and was titled OMWHIRRRRI. Before this, another OST completion would be started titled WHIRRRRRRRUNE, for the game Deltarune. This completion however would not receive the same attention as the previous two.
Occasionally, vips with the song also include a drum sample and a synth from an unknown origin. It is unclear if these samples are related to the source material or not.
